Number Porting Process¶
What to expect when your existing numbers move to Zoom Phone. The information the port request is built from is collected in the Number Porting & CSR workbook.
Timeline¶
Porting typically takes 5 to 30 business days. The range is wide because the process is controlled by your current (losing) carrier, not by Zoom or RX3. They own the validation and they issue the completion date. Some carriers turn requests around in under a week; others use most of the 30 days, and their porting departments are often slow to respond to status inquiries. We recommend planning your project against the longer end of that range so a slow carrier doesn't disrupt your cutover.
If a request is rejected¶
A rejection sends the request back to the beginning. Correcting the information and resubmitting adds a minimum of 3–5 business days, and often more, because the resubmitted order re-enters the carrier's queue at the back. Accurate information up front is the best protection against delay.
Port day and time¶
All Zoom ports are processed Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM Eastern, in the order Zoom works its queue. Your numbers will transition sometime after 11:30 AM — not precisely at 11:30. Evening and weekend port windows are not available. Please plan to have staff available around midday on your port date.
Accuracy is critical¶
Every port request is validated against the Customer Service Record (CSR) your current carrier holds on file. The service address, billing telephone number (BTN), account number, PIN, and authorized contact name must match that record exactly — character for character.
Carriers compare literally
The single most valuable thing you can provide us is a current, complete copy of your carrier bill and account details.
Errors causing a port to be resubmitted delay the process by an average of 2-5 business days.
Automatic port — fewer than 100 numbers¶
Submitted directly through the Zoom portal. The Letter of Authorization is completed and signed online as part of the submission itself, so there's no separate document to route. You'll also provide a recent copy of your carrier bill. This is the faster path, commonly around 10 business days to a confirmed date for straightforward wireline numbers.
Project port — more than 100 numbers¶
Larger ports are managed by Zoom's porting project team. The LOA here is a separate document that must be e-signed and submitted together with your number list. Expect a scrubbed inventory of all numbers, potentially multiple LOAs if your numbers span several accounts or BTNs, and a coordinated cutover plan. The timeline can be longer — up to several weeks — but you gain scheduling coordination and the ability to port in stages.
FOC (Firm Order Commitment) date¶
We can request a preferred port date, but a date is not confirmed until your current carrier formally issues the FOC. Until that confirmation arrives, any date under discussion is a target rather than a commitment.
Toll-free numbers¶
Toll-free numbers follow a separate, but similar process. They transfer through a separate RespOrg process with its own submission requirements and timeline, and must be handled as a distinct request alongside your standard numbers.
